Floteson is the home of composer, producer and instrumentalist Dean Harada. Born and raised in Hawaii, Dean went on to study music theory and performance with the award winning composer/guitarist David Leisner and MacArthur Fellow Ran Blake at the New England Conservatory in Boston. Their influences resonate deeply throughout his life. As a guitarist he performed in venues from Lincoln Center to CBGB’s and shared the bill with artists running the gamut from the Kronos Quartet to Run-DMC.
Working with Grammy winner Osvaldo Golijov on the world premiere of his sublime cantata Oceana turned his path toward the compositional life.
In Boston, Dean was a founding partner im the retro-analog studio Supersonic supporting indie and major record labels. After moving to Los Angeles, he expanded the studio into commercial music production and supervision with fellow composer Jason Moss.
Dean’s music as Floteson, a romantic minimalism drawn from acoustic instruments and electronic sound abstraction, has accompanied and underscored film, television, theatre and dance.
